Classes
January 2012 Lindy Hop Classes
CLASS INFORMATION
Classes run 4 consecutive weeks. Monday classes begin on March 19th at the SOB Barn. Tuesday classes begin on March 27th at the dance studio in Romney Gym. Our classes focus on universal concepts that will you allow you to improvise in any situation. We do teach moves, but we like to incorporate lead-follow technique into everything we do. Classes will start on time, so please arrive a few minutes early to change shoes and register. If you are not sure which class is right for you, please email me at vigilanteswing@gmail.com.
Jazz 103: The Tranky Doo
Monday, 8:00-9:00pm (starts 3/19)
No Prereq. The Tranky Doo is an original jazz choreography from the Savoy Ballroom in the 1940s. You want to know where to pick up sweet new variations for your lindy hop? This is the place. Plus, the Tranky Doo is just awesome… and danced by most lindy hoppers. Taught by Nicci Ryan. Click here for a Tranky Doo Video. Sign Up for Classes
Swing 202: Tuck Turns
Tuesday 7:00-8:00pm, Dance Studio at Romney Gym (starts 3/27)
Prereq: Swing 101. This class will cover tuck turns in all of their glory. This is one of the most powerful and versatile moves in the lindy hop repertoire. There are dozens, if not hundreds of different variations on the tuck turn. We’ll teach you how to make it feel good and how to style it up. Although it’s officially a six count swing class, this will be just as valuable for more experienced lindy hop dancers.
Charleston 103: Intro to Hand to Hand Charleston
Tuesday 8:00-9:00, Dance Studio at Romney Gym (starts 3/27)
Face to face partner charleston really sweetens up your lindy hop repertoire. Learn a bunch of moves to add in when the music gets fast and furious. Face to face charleston also requires some different partner connection points that could revolutionize your dancing. Sign Up for Classes

Directions to the SOB Barn
The SOB Barn is at 1400 West Garfield, just west of North Hedges on MSU’s campus. Coming east on Garfield from S 19th, the barn will be on your right, just before the road turns to the right. There is limited parking in the barn’s parking lot, so you might have to park on Garfield and walk over. Go straight through the big barn doors and up the stairs to the left.
Directions to the dance studio at Romney Gym
Tuesday night classes are held at the dance studio at Romney Gym. Romney is on Grant Street. If you are headed south on 11th, you’ll take a left on Grant. The gym is on the left hand side, across from the Fitness Center. Parking is a bit further down Grant on your right hand side, just before reaching 7th Ave. On the map it is labeled #10. If you enter the building through the main entrance (facing Grant), you will go up two flights of stairs, through the gymnasium, and through the door on the right hand side.
